Photography 12 Essay
Taryn Montague

The photographer I decided to write about is Pete Carr. Pete Carr is a freelance photographer who runs an award winning photo blog that involves taking pictures of the magnificent Liverpool. Pete Carr has three different styles of photography, architecture, portraits, and events. Pete does not just take pictures of Liverpool though, in fact he takes beautiful pictures from around the world that make people stop and appreciate it. Pete calls his photo blog The Little Time Machine where his work has been shared. His work had been exhibited in many galleries including Tate Liverpool, and the Open Eye Gallery. Pete shows his love for photography through his work, his extravagant photographs show the true passion he has, and he even quotes, “photography for me will never be just a job.”
I love this photograph of the Pyramid at the Louvre museum in Paris, France. Pete uses great lighting and use of the frame to make a gorgeous photograph. When I went to Europe on my spring break 2011 trip I saw this amazing pyramid standing proud in the middle square of the famous museum.  This photograph brings back amazing memories from a trip that will never be forgotten. Pete uses this picture to draw people in, and want to be part of the picture themselves. What makes this Pyramid structure so magnificent is because it is so modern in the middle of an ancient museum.
This is another one of my favorite photographs by Carr. This is a look at the city of Liverpool, UK at night. The great use of reflection on the water mesmerizes the audience. It is a peaceful photograph that is everything a great photograph should be. Having the reflection so soft makes your eyes look over the skyscrapers that light up into the evening sky and along the rippling water.
London, England, has some of the most breath taking monuments of all times, and the Tower Bridge is one of them. Pete does not hesitate to make this gorgeous bridge stand out like a castle. The perfect angle of this picture elongates the bridge, and the third point perspective makes the audience to also see other objects in the picture as well. Pete must use perfect lighting and time of day in all of these photographs in order for them to work. I am a huge fan of Pete Carr’s work; these photographs are only three of the many architectural photographs he has taken.
This last photograph is one of my favorites of Pete Carr’s. It is not a place or a monument it is a photograph of meaning and love. This woman holds these two crosses with poppies on them in memory of loved ones lost at war. Even though this picture seems very simple at first, after a little while of looking at it the audience realizes the mystery behind the photograph and strong impact it has. This photograph leaves the viewer wondering what the eyes of this women look like and what her story is. The passion Pete puts into his work is really amazing and shows through in his pictures.
